Napoleon III silvered-copper Proof Essai 5 Francs 1853 PR67 Cameo NGC, Paris mint, Maz-1630 var. Champagne toning seamlessly blends into a faint amber tone along the peripheries to create masterful eye-appeal. This strike is so remarkable that it looks like as if it was minted yesterday. A high degree of frost on the highpoints accompanies the wavy, watery mirrors and produces a dramatic cameo appearance. Remarkable to view in hand, with the the word gorgeous even failing to properly credit this splendid work of art from mintmaster Barre's estate. This "Silvered Copper" example was last offered in our 2011 NYINC Sale and to date, we have not seen another one offered for sale. Quite possibly unique!
