Münster - Bishopric. Ferdinand von Bayern gold 5 Ducat 1638 AU Details (Filed Rims) PCGS, Fr-1764/1765a, cf. Dav-5593/5595 for obverse and reverse in silver. An attractive piece well-struck on a generous flan from muled Schautaler dies with light handling and little observable wear. The pairing is of two reverse types, the St. Paul/cityscape of a type usually paired with the arms of the bishop and a Nativity scene typically paired with a different style of St. Paul portrait. The rim filing is not visible in the holder and there is much residual luster. A very rare multiple Ducat issue struck in the midst of the Thirty Years' War in the year after the accession of Ferdinand III, a full decade before part of the peace negotiations would take place in this city.

Estimate: 20000-30000 USD
