James II Crown 1687 MS65 NGC, KM463, S-3407. TERTIO edge. A simply stunningly preserved piece, we can say quite confidently that we have never seen its equal. Though we have previously offered examples graded MS64, we have not encountered one in true Gem Mint State condition ever before. Indeed, of the 106 examples of 1687 crowns seen by both NGC and PCGS, only two have been graded MS65 by either service. This piece has lovely light gray toning with a significant amount of underlying luster. Even under 10x magnification, we have a hard time finding any defects or detriments that are worth even mentioning in the interest of thoroughness. Whichever discerning collector ends up with this piece will without a doubt be extremely pleased with his or her acquisition, as they would be hard-pressed to ever find a comparable example.
