Great Britain
William & Mary gold 5 Guineas 1692 AU53 NGC, Royal mint, KM479.1, S-3422. QVARTO edge. A massive gold issue from the only period of joint reign in English (British) history, and as a result, a coin that consistently catches the eye of the coin historian. Nearly fully detailed, the present coin wears the typical signs of age, with numerous contact marks in the soft gold surfaces that mostly concentrate on the conjoined busts, as well as all-over handling that has slightly brightened the surfaces. Upon intense inspection, light smoothing is observed in the right obverse field. On both sides, attractive rose-colored tone has nestled into the protected areas, and imparts a charming look. As a type, scarce in all grades, with the aforementioned William and Mary fascination from collectors generating constant demand for this significant relic of the period.
