George II gold 5 Guineas 1748 MS62 NGC, Royal mint, KM586.2, S-3666. A stunning piece in hand, we feel that if it weren't for a couple of digs in the obverse left field, this piece would have absolutely no problem achieving a higher numerical grade. Aside from that, however, this piece certainly ranks among the finest known. The portrait is exceptionally bold, perhaps bolstered in attractiveness by the highly lustrous fields, giving George II that extra "pop" needed to take the appeal to the next level. As good as Heritage's photography may be, we feel that nothing can do this coin justice like holding it in hand and viewing it with the naked eye. It really is an exceptional piece and is quite a bit nicer than the MS62 grade would suggest.
