Exceptionally mirrored surfaces with emphatically frosted devices easily explain why this piece is tied for with one other piece at the PR65 level for the finest graded (considering both the populations seen by NGC and PCGS). In fact, that other PR65 Cameo piece was sold by Heritage in January, 2014 as part of the Eric P. Newman collection, where it hammered for $10,000. In the intervening three years, the market for British proof gold has only climbed even higher, and so that mark, which still stands as a world record for the type, could easily be surpassed with this current lot.
