George IV gold Proof Sovereign 1821 PR62 Cameo PCGS, Royal mint, KM682, S-3800, WR-231 RE. A lovely piece, and a rather difficult type to acquire in proof. Based on our research, this is a type that shows up for auction only once or twice per year- one was sold in September 2016 in PR64 Ultra Cameo for 12,500 GBP hammer, with the one previous to that being a PR61 Cameo example that sold in our August, 2015 auction for $8,500 hammer. Some hairlines are noted in the fields, possibly the result of cabinet friction, but otherwise quite a lovely piece, particulary when viewed with just the naked eye.
