George IV gold Proof Sovereign 1826 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS, Royal mint, KM696, S-3801. A stunning example of this difficult type. Among the finest examples of this type seen by PCGS, and the single highest-graded specimen to receive the coveted Deep Cameo designation. The last time a PR65 example crossed the auction block was in a Stack's-Bowers sale in August, 2013, when an NGC PR65 Cameo hammered at $9,000. Not only does this coin go a step beyond that one by receiving the "Deep Cameo" notation, meaning that its devices are even more frosted and fields even more mirrored, but the market has gone up considerably in the last three and a half years. Some light die polish lines are noted in the fields which should not be mistaken for hairlines, as the few marks on the surfaces are only really visible under magnification. An all-around gorgeous piece.
