Victoria Proof 1/2 Crown 1881 PR64+ PCGS, Royal mint, KM756, S-3889. Beautiful multi-hued toning, with blue, orange, red, and every color in between. While the eye appeal of this piece is quite dramatic, the technical quality is equally impressive. Indeed, this is the single highest-graded piece that PCGS has ever seen, with only one graded higher at NGC (a PR65). To the best of our knowledge, one graded this high has never been offered publicly before. Though we have sold a couple of PR64's, at this elite level of preservation every small detail, such as the "plus" that this coin has, can make a huge difference in the final price realized, as most experienced collectors and dealers will attest. We would not be surprised at all to see this coin surpass the record set by a PCGS PR64 of this type that we sold in January, 2015 for $15,000 hammer.
