Victoria gold Proof Sovereign 1887 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC, Royal mint, KM767, S-3866B. Mintage: 797. Jubilee Head type. A phenomenal survivor in all regards, first in its rich, apricot-tinged gloss that radiates across the open expanses, and then in its near-flawless state of preservation that leaves the surfaces free of handling marks that require addressing. As is noted by the designation, significant cameo contrast is easily identifiable between the low-lying mirrors and the deeply frosted design illustrations. Few examples have reached the Gem plateau at either grading service, and only one specimen has surpassed this lofty classification (MS67 at NGC). As such, a fantastic jewel with commanding allure, simply beautiful in its presentation, and frequently encountered so exquisite.
