Guatemala
Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1817 NG-M AU55 NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM71, Fr-22, Onza-1209. A highly interesting and desirable piece on multiple fronts. Featuring his laureate bust right, this issue is the sole 8 escudos struck under Ferdinand VII. Additionally, this represents the final year in which gold coinage was minted in Guatemala while still under the authority of the Spanish crown. Very elusive in this near-mint state grade, with little evidence of actual wear, and only the slightest hints of gentle handling. A great deal of luster remains on this attractive specimen.
