Honduras
Republic gold 5 Pesos 1902 MS64+ NGC, Tegucigalpa mint, KM53. Gem Mint State with flawless satiny surfaces and superbly lustrous under delicate orange-hued patina. While obviously not as rare as the legendary 20 and 10 Pesos denominations, the Honduras gold 5 Pesos are nevertheless among the most challenging Republican gold series of the Americas to collect, particularly in eye-appealing condition. MS61 or MS62 Mint State examples are offered from time to time and anything above that level is truly elusive. The present example is obviously the finest extant of this extremely rare date, three examples of which are known, and is in fact the most impressive representative of the type to be ever offered publicly to the knowledge of the cataloger. It is superior to any of the coins in the Eliasberg collection (the finest being an MS64 of the "commoner" date, and also to the Hammel example, to name two legendary collections formed in the 20th century. A numismatic jewel, excessively rare and incredibly desirable in this unbelievable quality.
