British India. East India Company - Victoria gold Mohur 1841.-(c) MS62 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM462.3, Fr-1595a, Prid-22, S&W-3.7. Split Legend variety. A sublime representative of this avidly sought type, featuring the emblematic prowling lion in full, beautiful definition. The surfaces throughout are quite handsome, showing all-over amber coloration, while the obverse contains isolated moments of russet tone that extend from the rims inward. The Queen's portrait is the obvious focus here, with careful attention to detail noted in her styling and, due to an impressive strike, notable highpoint sharpness. A number of insignificant marks are located across both sides; however, they remain consistent with the assigned grade, and little impede the studying eye, while effulgent mint bloom readily brightens the apricot-tinged planchet at a moment's notice. For the connoisseur of British India gold issues, this conditionally scarce specimen surely delights.
