British India. Victoria gold Mohur 1875-(c) MS62 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM480, Prid-13, S&W-5.1. A very scarce date in the British mohur series, with this example being only the third we have offered in our history as an auction firm, the two others having been sold well over a decade ago. Notably, this is also the finest we've offered, with full highpoint detail and attractive brilliance in the fields. Delicate handling defines the grade, with several instances of residue (likely easily removable) noted for accuracy's sake in the field to the left of Victoria's forehead and on her lower cheek. One of only 5 examples graded at the Mint State level by NGC, with only two finer at the MS63 grade.
