Parma. Ferdinand I gold 8 Doppie 1786 AU58 NGC, KM-C22a, F-926. A beautiful near-Mint example of this large Italian gold coin, and only the second example that we have ever offered. Light red toning throughout serves as a nice highlighting feature for the devices and legends. For the sake of thoroughness, we must note a slight mark at 6:00 on the obverse, just to the left of the star; it seems intentional, so we can speculate that it was perhaps done by a merchant to test the gold content when this piece was in circulation. Overall attractive, and not often-encountered.
