Piacenza. Alessandro Farnese (1586-1591) gold Quadrupla (2 Doppie) 1597-AP AU Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, Piacenza mint, Fr-899, MIR-1137/9. Alessandro Pindemonte as mintmaster. A beautiful example of this posthumous coinage issued under Ranuccio I Farnese. The devices are boldly struck for the type, particularly in the centers, although there is some peripheral weakness and doubling. Despite the details grade, the hairlines are fairly inconsequential for a coin of the late Renaissance.
Estimate: 6000-8000 USD
