Meiji Proof "Clockwise Spiral" Yen Year 7 (1874) PR62 NGC, Osaka mint, KM-YA25.2, JNDA 1-10. Obv. Dragon in beaded circle with date and value in surrounding legend. Rev. Value in wreath, with chrysanthemum above. Proofs of the early Japanese coinage are unlisted in all catalogs. They are exceedingly rare, and this is the first Proof example of this issue we have seen. Deeply mirrored fields, with a near-perfect strike. A light golden haze covers both sides and the overall appearance is quite nice. No significant marks are noted, and this piece seems to be very conservatively graded. An amazing example of this very scarce issue and the first Proof we have seen. This is the only Proof example of this date certified by either NGC, or PCGS.
Estimate: 60000-80000 USD
