Republic gold 50 Pesos 1931/0 MS65 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM481. A key date and overdate variety in this highly collected series, and incredibly important to NGC Registry participants in this lofty Gem grade, as only two coins (including this piece) have merited the MS65 grade with none having been designated finer. As one might expect from a Gem, full radiance remains, with coruscating luster filling up both sides, and only a wisp of orange-gold tone here and there that adds a touch of character. For a coin of such substantial size, few marks are seen. Expect strong competition for this one, as we had the pleasure of selling the only other example back in our April 2014 auction and it brought an impressive $38,187.50.
