Utrecht. Provincial gold Daalder of 30 Stuivers 1685 MS63 NGC, Delm-975 (R4), PW Ut-67.1. A stunning specimen of this off-metal strike, far superior in detail to its circulating counterparts in silver in a module of 6 Ducats' weight. Selection of this type for a presentation issue is likely linked to the obverse design bearing the arms of the seven provinces of the Dutch Republic. The fields are flashy, bordering on prooflike, which accentuates the stark relief of the devices while emphasizing the special nature of the production of this piece. A minor edge knock just below the date is noted, but is not severe and does not extend through to the reverse rim of the coin. Extremely rare.

This piece was minted under William III of Orange as stadtholder for Utrecht in the year James II was crowned King of England and a mere three years before William would lead the Glorious Revolution overthrowing James and becoming King of England through his wife Mary's claim to the throne as James' daughter.

Estimate: 50000-60000 USD
