Nicaragua
Republic copper Pattern Centabo 1860 MS61 Brown NGC, KM-PnA1. Lustrous Mint State and most attractive for the assigned grade with sharply defined details and only minimal surface handling evidence. Probably Nicaragua's most iconic issue, the 1860 pattern with the charming misspelling "CENTABO" in the legend has been justifiably praised as a significant rarity for ages. A case in point is the Jenks example (B. M. Mehl 12/1921, lot 7148), considered special enough to be included in the plate section of the few limited edition illustrated catalogs of that legendary auction – considered by several American numismatists to be among the most significant sales in history. Very rare in any grade with 10-12 examples confirmed by the cataloger and extremely desirable in this superb quality. One of only two examples certified in Mint State by NGC, the finest seen by the cataloger and worthy of inclusion in the finest cabinet of Nicaraguan coins.
