Sancho I (1185-1211) gold Morabitino ND MS63 NGC, Coimbra mint, Fr-1, Gomes S1-04.09. + SΛNCIVS REX PORTUGΛLIS *, king on horseback right, holding scepter and brandishing a sword / + IN NE PTRIS I FILI I SPS SCIΛ, cross composed of five shields, a 7-pointed star in each angle. A beautiful and very rare example of this early gold coinage of Portugal, lustrous and featuring an exacting strike. A minor blunder in the obverse legend has crammed the initial cross and "S" of Sancho's name practically on top of one another, but otherwise the legends are clear and legible. As an especially uncommon offering in this elite quality, we expect much competition for ownership of this outstanding specimen.

Estimate: 20000-25000 USD
