Catherine II Rouble 1778 CПБ-ΘΛ MS65 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-C67b, Dav-1685, Bitkin-226, Diakov-374. Obv. Laureate, crowned, draped, and mantled bust right. Rev. Crowned imperial double eagle facing, holding scepter and orb; crown above. An absolutely blazing piece, resplendent with lustrous, argent surfaces, this dazzling beauty is a true gem. Among Catherine's rouble series, this example is tied with two other specimens as the finest known, and it is by itself within this particular date. Some die rust is noted, though the coin nevertheless possesses the highest degree of charm and character.
