Nicholas II Specimen Pattern Rouble 1899 SP58 PCGS, St. Petersburg mint, KM-Unlisted, Bitkin-50, Uzd-2097, Sev-4074. Plain edge. An exceptionally rare and captivating pattern issue featuring a plain edge and no magistrates' initials. Unlisted in KM, while Bitkin merely cites values in conditions of Fine and Very Fine, this piece exhibits a deep, pleasing tone, with attractive highlights around the devices and near the peripheries. The reverse especially is aglow with a beautiful array of burnt sienna and electric cobalt. Featuring near-matte surfaces, only a hint of wear and gentle handling prevent a much higher grade. The Sincona specimen (14 October 2013), lot 969, an ungraded, once cleaned, mint state piece, realized a hammer of ChF 38,000. The present coin certainly compares to its overall quality and should be given a great deal of consideration from the most discerning collectors of Russian or trial pieces.

Estimate: 18000-24000 USD
