Nicholas II "Death of Stolypin" gold Medal 1911 MS64 PCGS, by A. Vasyutinsky, Diakov-1518.1 (R5), Smirnov-1449, 56mm. Obv. Facing portrait of P.A. Stolypin, with date of his death. Rev. Six-line inscription, "They Need Great Upheavals, We Need a Great Russia. To P.A. Stolypin from All-Russian National Club." Well struck, with matte surfaces and a few light marks. An exceedingly rare issue in gold and the only example certified by PCGS and NGC combined. We can find no recent reference of a gold example of this medal being sold.
Pyotr was the Russian Prime Minister and handled his job with ruthless efficiency. During the 1911 unveiling of a monument to Tsar Alexander II, Stolypin was attending a performance of "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" at the Kiev opera. An ex-agent of the secret police, Dmitri Bogrov, assassinated Stolypin by shooting him twice. Bogrov was hanged 10 days later.
