João Prince Regent silver "Capture of Cayenne" Medal 1809 MS62 PCGS, VC-16, 50mm. Housed in an oversized PCGS holder. Boldly detailed, with mottled gray toning and light marks. Recorded to have been produced at the Soho Mint in London. Cayenne, the lone French colonial outpost in South America, was taken by the order of the Prince Regent in 1809 as a reprisal for the Napoleonic invasions of the Iberian Peninsula in 1807. The military invasion was supported by the British Naval Commander James Lucas Yeo. In 1817, after signing a treaty with the French, Cayenne was turned back over to France.
