Charles II copper Proof Pattern Shilling 1663 PR35 PCGS, ESC-1067A (Rarity 6). CAROLVS • II • - • DEI • GRATIA. First laureate draped bust, right / (date) MAG • BR • - FRA • ET • - HI • REX • . Crowned emblems of thistle, lis, harp and rose, in place of (the eventually adopted) cruciform shields design. Interlink C's in center. Extremely rare. Sometimes called a pattern farthing and listed in Peck's volume (P488) it is, however, generally accepted now that this is a pattern for the first milled shilling of Charles II. The obverse is struck from the adopted shilling die, the reverse is somewhat different from the 1663 currency design. Smooth attractive surfaces.
