Bithynia was a centre of the cult of emperor worship. At this period, the three temples on this coin are the Temple of Roma and Augustus, reconstructed by Hadrian c. 136 after being destroyed by an earthquake in the previous decade, the Temple of Septimius Severus, constructed c. 195 and a new temple dedicated to Elagabalus, conceived when the recently proclaimed emperor and his wife over-wintered there in 218-19
