Yusuf bin Ayyub at center, two marginal legends around, rev. al-Imam Ahmad at center, two marginal legends around. The great Salah al-Din died of fever on March 4, 1193 (AH 589) in Damascus. The Kurdish historian Baha al-Din (jurist and scholar to the Ayyubid ruler) tells us that at his death, the noble Salah al-Din had but one gold Dinar and forty pieces of silver. He had given away his great wealth to his poor subjects, so had naught to pay for his own funeral. He was buried in a mausoleum in the gardens outside the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. A-785.2.
