Bengal Sultans, Muhammad Bakhtiyar Khalji (AH 601-2, AD 1204-06). Gold fractional Tanka of 20-Rati, 2.3g, in the name of Mu'izz Muhammad bin Sam the Ghorid Sultan of Delhi, horseman galloping right holding a lance, within circular border containing a Devanagari legend believed to read Gauda- vijaye (on the conquest of Gaur), rev. Arabic legend al-Sultan al-mu'azzam abu muzaffar Muhammad bin Sam . Ref. G & G.B2; Rajgor 103; Deyell 257. Fine with some flat areas, very rare.. . . . These coins were issued after the conquest of Bengal by the Ghorids. Goron suggests that as most of them are now found in Pakistan they may not have circulated in Bengal, but could have been a commemorative issue presented to the victorious troops who returned with them to their homeland.. .
