Italy, Vittorio Emanuele III (1900-1946). . 100 Lire 1923-R, Rome mint, gold, weight 32,27 g., diameter 35mm, 6h. Obv. head left, below neck, name of the author. Lettered edge: VITTORIO EMANUELE III RE D'ITALIA A.MOTTI., rev. a fasces with an axe decorated with a ram head right., left value on two lines, below mintmark; right the dates. ref. KM-65, Fr. 30, Pag. 644, Mont. 12. Matte finish.. Extremely fine. . . Designed by A.S. Motti, this coin was issued to commemorate the first anniversary of the Fascist Government. The March on Rome took place on October 1st, 1922 and the coin was struck with a year date of 1923. This explains the legend on the reverse showing the two dates, OTTOBRE 1922 1923.. . A very desirable scarce type (key date) in strong grade (MS62 Matte), emblematic of the Fascist years.. PCGS MS62 Matte
