Turkey, Abdul Mejid I (1823-1839-1861). 1854 copper medal by L.J. Hart. (Belgium) to celebrate the Ottoman Alliance with France and England against Russia, and their victory during the siege of the Silistra fortress in Bulgaria. Diameter 64,0mm. Obv. Sultan's bust almost full-face, with order over cloak and plumed hat, around him a border of shields naming the military hierarchy of the Crimean War, rev drapped Europas holding a sword and a bar with mosque and minaret left as background, legend LA FRANCE ET L'ANGLETERRE UNIES POUR LA DEFENSE DU DROIT, DIEU LE VEUT. Ref. Edhem Eldem S. 172, . . . Extremely fine, except for a small dent on the edge at 4h., with a splendid red brown patina, highlighting further the detailed high relief design of Hart's medallistic art..
