Judaea. First Jewish War. 66-70 C.E. AE eighth shekel (20.1 mm, 5.08 g, 12 h). Year 4 = C.E. 69/70. Omer cup with pearled rim / Lulav bunch flanked by etrogs. Hendin 1369; Meshorer TJC 214a. Superb EF.

This coin was originally part of the Elvira Elisa Clain-Stefanelli (1914-2001) collection- a force in Numismatics in the 20th Century. The Smithsonian Institution’s coin cabinet (the National Numismatic Collection) today is primarily the work of Elvira and her late hus- band, Vladimir. This coin was painstakingly cleaned manually under the microscope over many hours. The patina was left intact and no details were strengthened.
