Following the Capture of Gibraltar, Sir George Rooke chased the French fleet and the indecisive battle was fought on the 13th/24th August, 1704, with much loss to both sides. Louis de Bourbon, son of Louis XIV and his mistress Mme de Montespan, had been appointed Admiral at the age of 5 and was wounded at the siege of Namur when only 12. This medal was commissioned by the Comte d'Artois (later Charles X) to honour his ancestor. (120 - 150 GBP)
