Medals by Subject, Art Medals, Germany, Achilles and Deidamia, rectangular Bronze Plaquette, first half of the 17th Century, the couple embrace before a tower, from which her father, King Lycomedes, watches from a window whilst holding a sceptre, 212mm x 131mm, numbered "VI" on reverse (cf Molinari 389M, for style). Very fine with blackish patination, pierced at corners and central drilling on reverse for suspender (now missing).
The attribution to Achilles and Deidamia must remain tentative. (200 - 300 GBP)
