2 COINS. Victoria. 1837-1901. Copper farthings (two). 22 mm. Obverse 2. The 1853/5 is apparently unrecorded though the die is known on a sovereign. 1853 and 1853/5 WW raised. Her young head left; VICTORIA DEI GRATIA around; 1853 (vestiges of 5 under the 3) below / Britannia seated right BRITANNIAR: REG: FID: DEF: around. S. 3950. Peck 1575. 1853: 4.58 gm. Good Extremely Fine; rich brown tone with luster traces. 1853/5: 4.74 gm. Uncirculated; lightly toned and appealing; mark on cheek that looks like it was in the die and a die break on reverse through arm of Britannia.

The Frank Robinson Collection.

The Baldwin Bentley Sale 3 offered a sovereign of the same die with the overstruck 3. The cataloguer commented about this as an "after lunch" die mistake adding that the "variety remains quite elusive." While the definitive Colin Cooke Collection (2006) does not list this overstrike, it does list another similarly unrecorded piece (1843/2) as coming from a "recently discovered 1843/2 sovereign die."
