Worcestershire 32a. Stourbridge. (Probably unique). Æ halfpenny. 8.79 gm. 29 mm. Denton or Prattent made this for sale (rather than trade) and it was perhaps engraved by James (Waters). 1797. View of a country church from the side; BRIRLEY • HILL • TOKEN•••• around / RA, a cypher in a circle of leaves; R. ASTIN . MALTSTER STOURBRIDGE 1797 around. Brown Uncirculated; some marks on flan apparently before the piece was struck.
Ex Spink. Ex Richardson (old tag included).
This is the only known example of this generally rare piece with a plain edge; this strike may have been a die trial or an error in selecting a flan from somewhere other than the store of the engrailed edge flans normally used for this piece; many of the extremely rare pieces in the D&H series are similar edge variations.
