Unlike the plentiful tetradrachms of its wealthy neighbors, Arados and Tyre, the late Hellenistic tetradrachms from Sidon are incredibly scarce. Furthermore, they are amongst the most beautiful coins of the region, the engraving of the dies used to strike the coins generally of a very high caliber. Such is the specimen offered here, which has an exceptionally handsome portrait of the city goddess on the obverse and a finely executed eagle with a fierce expression on the reverse.
