Great Britain. Crown, 1746. S.3689; ESC-125; Dav-1350; KM-585.3. George II. LIMA below bust. Obverse, draped laureate bust of king left. GEORGIVS II DEI GRATIA. Reverse; Crowned cruciform shields. Practically mint state with a golden grey tone. Some evidence of flecking in the metal is testimony to the quality of the silver used to produce this large coin. It was made from treasure seized by Admiral Anson during his circumnavigation of the globe 1740-1744, and has the word LIMA below the king's bust celebrates the expedition's successful harassment of the Spanish colonies in the New World. Very scarce in high grade and an attractive and historically important coin. PCGS graded About Uncirculated, Details (Cleaning). Estimate Value $2,000 - 2,500
* The captured silver used to make this coin came from booty taken from the Spanish. It was decided that the precious metal would be sent to the Royal Mint to be coined, and it took scores of wagons to transport it all to the Tower. Huge crowds gathered in awe at the spectacle of the captured loot making its way through the streets of London.
