Great Britain. Quarter-Farthing, 1839. S.3953; KM-737. Victoria. Obverse young portrait of queen by Wyon. Reverse; Britannia.
An rarer date and uncirculated example of one of Britain's smallest (and lowest denomination) coins. Estimate Value $150 - 200
* The quarter farthing was introduced for use in Ceylon, but did not later become legal tender in the UK as even at the start of Victoria's reign it was of little commercial value. This tiny coin is however rare (there are only 5 dates available) and has been accepted into the British numismatic series. It was even included as a denomination in the Proof set of 1853. As with the Queen Anne farthing, the Victorian quarter farthing's rarity was somewhat exaggerated. The numismatic writer Batty stated in his work of 1886 that he had only seen one example dated 1853.
