Great Britain. Penny, 1860/59. S.3948; KM-739. Victoria. Obverse young portrait of queen left by Wyon. Reverse, Britannia. A very presentable coin with good surfaces. The 1860 dated copper penny is the very last of the series, the rarest, and the most sought after. NGC graded EF-45 Brown. Estimate Value $3,000 - 3,500
* In December 1860 the copper coinage was replaced by bronze- a change which had already been made in France in 1852. Most of the Pennies, Halfpennies and Farthings dated 1860 are consequently the smaller, bronze issue. All large copper coins dated 1860 are exceedingly rare.
