1823 1C N-2, R.2, XF40 NGC. Absent from the Randall Hoard, the 1823 is conditionally rare. Three die marriages are known, one of which is a privately made "restrike" that commands much less than the N-2 Normal Date and the N-1 1823/2 overdate. All three Newcomb varieties are listed in the Guide Book, with N-2 priced highest. The present moderately circulated example is a middle die state with unconnected rim breaks above stars 5 and 6. The chocolate-brown surfaces are attractive aside from a few thin marks near the E in ONE. Our EAC grade Fine 15.
