Shield Nickels
1883 5C MS67 PCGS. CAC. The Shield nickel design was abandoned in 1883 in favor of Charles Barber's Liberty Head design. The switch prompted collectors to set aside examples of each type, accounting for the accessibility of these final-year Shield nickels. This brilliant Superb Gem is fully struck and nearly pristine. Numerous die cracks appear on the obverse. Population: 16 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer. CAC: 9 in 67, 0 finer (1/17).
