Proof Buffalo Nickels
1916 5C PR66 NGC. Wide, square rims and mirrored edges help confirm the matte proof status of this Premium Gem 1916 nickel. A scant mintage of just 600 pieces in proof format is likely overstated, since some proofs did not sell prior to a 20-year hiatus of Mint proofs. The matte surfaces are essentially immaculate and razor-sharp, with a few microscopic flyspecks but no significant distractions of note. The attractive fields and devices display pleasing mint luster beneath areas of pale reddish-gold patina. Census: 54 in 66 (1 in 66+, 1 in 66★), 22 finer (12/16).
