Seated Half Dimes
1853 H10C Arrows MS66+ NGC. CAC. Ex: Highland Collection. Necessary as a three-year type, the Arrows half dimes were struck in large quantity in 1853 with a mintage exceeding 13 million pieces. It is anyone's guess why more coins approaching the Superb Gem level did not survive the huge mintage. This is a lustrous and sharp high-end Premium Gem, struck from faintly clashed dies. Variegated toning intensifies at the borders with shades of steel-blue, tan-gold, and cream-gray in evidence. Scattered and small deep-gray freckles dot the portrait and obverse fields. A tiny depression on Liberty's cheek is the only mark of note, while the eye appeal is excellent. CAC endorses the coin. Census: 2 in 66+, 1 in 66★, 23 finer. CAC: 12 in 66, 7 finer (1/17).
