Proof Braided Hair Half Cents
1857 1/2 C PR65+ Brown PCGS. B-2, R.4. Reverse doubling on CENT and on the ribbon is most easily seen at the right upright and base of T. B-2 is one of two die marriages for the 1857 issue, here with the Small Berries reverse typical of restrike proofs. Gleaming, richly toned chocolate-brown surfaces display reflective fields with shades of blue, violet, forest-green, and golden-rose that contrast with sharply struck central motifs. A virtually unimprovable high-end proof example tied for finest at PCGS with one other coin by virtue of the Plus designation. Our EAC grade PR62. Population: 6 in 65 (2 in 65+) Brown, 0 finer (1/17).
