Proof Two Cent Pieces
1873 2C Closed 3 PR66 Red PCGS. Gleaming copper-orange fields provide a mirrored backdrop for razor-sharp, satiny devices on this Premium Gem Red Closed 3 proof. Hints of reddish-lavender appear when tilted beneath a light. There are no obvious carbon spots. The 1873 two cent piece was struck in proof format only. Varieties exist with Closed 3 (earlier) and Open 3 (later) logotypes. The Closed 3 variant is more plentiful in high grade and ideal for type purposes, although Premium Gem Red coins such as the piece offered here are still conditionally rare. Population: 15 in 66 Red, 1 finer (1/17).
