Proof Jefferson Nickels
1940 5C PR69 NGC. Here is an offering that should generate plenty of excitement. Although this is an example of the more-available 1940 Reverse of 1940 with strengthened steps, it is the single-finest example of the date at NGC and PCGS combined. It is the earliest certified Jefferson nickel in PR69 condition, and claims a low mintage of 14,158 coins. Simply put, this spectacular representative would make a monumental addition to any advanced set.
Rings of mauve, green, blue, rose, and gold patina encompass each side. The effect is slightly dusky on the reverse. For all intents and purposes, the surfaces of this amazing specimen are flawless. There is a single, microscopic fleck on Jefferson's chin, but that is all that stands in the way of a pristine PR70 designation. No PR69 1940 nickel has ever been offered, and one may not appear again for quite some time. This opportunity should be seized upon. Census: 1 in 69, 0 finer (1/17).
