Seated Dimes
1839-O/O 10C No Drapery, Large O, F-104a, FS-501, High R.4, MS67+ NGC. A Top 100 Fortin Variety. The Large O mintmark is boldly repunched southeast, and a die crack bisects the reverse, traveling through the I in UNITED, DIME, to the C in AMERICA. Star 8 is clearly repunched. The second-year 1839-O claims a mintage of 1.3 million coins and is considered relatively available, but Fortin notes that examples become decidedly scarce in EF condition. All Mint State coins are rare, while comparable Superb Gems are major rarities. Specialists will surely recognize the importance of this offering. Each side is untoned with incredibly strong detail around the borders and on Liberty's head, shield, and the olive leaves. Census: 1 in 67 (1 in 67+), 2 finer (1/17).
