Mercury Dimes
1927-D 10C MS66 Full Bands PCGS. CAC. The 1927-D Mercury dime is quite scarce in Mint State. The issue is also notorious for its inexplicable poor overall quality, especially the well-known weakness at the peripheries and in the central and diagonal bands (David Lange, 2005). Any coin that exceeds those expectations is a welcome contradiction indeed.
This Premium Gem displays fullness on all of the bands, and much better-than-average definition on the peripheral elements. Highly lustrous surfaces are covered in light gray and iridescent rainbow coloration on the obverse, while gray-tan patina on the reverse is sprinkled with russet. A couple of pinprick obverse marks exist but are really not worth any additional discussion. CAC endorsement confirms the quality surfaces. Population: 31 in 65 (3 in 65+) Full Bands, 13 finer (1/16).
