1856-S 25C MS63 PCGS. CAC. Briggs 1-A. The 1856-S quarter was heavily circulated in the Western regions, and only a dozen Mint State survivors are reported by PCGS and NGC combined. This Select example is within the Condition Census, with only two finer coins known. The strike is sharp, and each side displays satiny lavender-gray luster with significant olive-green and gold toning on each side. A few minor abrasions are consistent with the grade. We have handled only two other Select representatives within the last ten years, and only one of those was CAC-approved like the present coin. Population: 4 in 63, 2 finer. CAC: 2 in 63, 0 finer (1/17).
